Day 1: Beginning

Two weeks ago, on August 10, I woke up, rolled out of bed, and noticed how horribly lethargic I felt.  My arms were heavy as if weighted down and all I wanted to do was sit.  In that moment, I’d had enough.

I’m a big girl.  Obese.  Maybe even morbidly obese given that I need to lose 100+ pounds.  I am very lucky because outside of my weight, I am pretty much healthy. As a mid-century (50 year old) woman, I listen to a lot of friends my age talk about the meds they have to take and I am very grateful that Flonase is the only medicine sitting on my bathroom sink.  I want to keep it that way.

So as I stood in my kitchen feeling about as blah as a person can get, I decided it was time for a change.  I charged my Fitbit and started stepping.  It was a struggle to say the least!  I had just spent the last 3 years taking classes full-time and most of those 3 years was spent sitting in front of a computer.  Needless to say, my stepping was more like a slow stroll.  By the end of the day, I had walked 7634 steps (3.04 miles).  My goal was 10,000.  I quickly set up a weekend challenge on my Fitbit to keep me accountable.  Six friends joined me.  I told them what was going on and they pshed me. I hit my goal both days!  It was time to make a plan…
